Some of you may remember TJ and his mom, Anna, who attended church here one Sunday in December when they helped light the Advent Candle during the 11 am service. TJ lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 7, and has been welcomed into heaven.
Ash Wednesday will be observed this coming Wednesday, February 14, at St. Matthew’s AME Zion Church (345 Thorn St, Sewickley).
Just a reminder that we need your help with the Turkey Dinner, which is this coming week on Thursday, February 8.
On a day when many of us will be sharing in the blessings of a Super Bowl gathering, the SUMC youth are asking for your help in sharing some blessings globally. Our teens will have a super, or “Souper,” Bowl in the sanctuary during both services Sunday to collect coins for Heifer International. Paper currency is also welcome. Heifer International is an agency that provides sustainable food and water options to families around the world.

Secret Pals 2018 runs from Sunday February 4th – Sunday February 25th. If you have not done this before, this is how it works.
The Lenten dinners will begin on Sunday, February 25th and run for 5 weeks ending on March 25th. Each dinner will begin at 5:00; main dish, rolls, and beverages will be provided. Please bring a dish for the table.
Ash Wednesday dinner and service will take place on February 14th. Dinner is at 6:00 with the service at 7:00. Please take a dish for the buffet table.
The congregation will kick off the new year on Sunday, January 28th, with fellowship at noon. Homemade soups will be served with snacks, desserts, and beverages. Come enjoy worshiping and dining together.
In addition to the opportunities provided through our local church, there are a number of national and international mission trips organized through our Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference.

The Outreach Committee and other interested persons are invited to attend the meeting. We will discuss ministry completed in 2017 and plan for outreach ministries for 2018. If you have questions about the committee or suggestions for outreach ministries, please contact Martha Boward, chair. Light lunch will be provided.
It’s cold out there! Please consider donating soups, stews, and other cold weather food to the Sewickley Community Food Bank. Pick up an item or two while you shop and help replenish the local food pantry. The cart will be out on February 25th, but your donations are welcome anytime.

This special offering helps promote awareness issues and supports Western PA Conference ministries that provide opportunities for fuller inclusion of people with disabilities.

Our monthly community Salad Luncheon is this Thursday, January 4, from 11 am to 1 pm.
Ruth Painter, mother of Nancy Wiggins, and grandmother of Noah and Nina, has passed away. Her funeral service will be held at Sewickley UMC today, Thursday, December 14, at 6:30 pm. Visitation will take place in the sanctuary the hour prior to the service, and a funeral meal will be held in the Simpson Room following the service.
The Olive Branch sells high quality, unusual handcrafts made by cooperatives and community organizations representing artisans and small farmers in some of the poorest nations of the world.
The annual Cookie Walk is this Saturday, December 16th, from 9-11 am, in the Simpson Room.
If you wanted to make any donations to the gift bags the FOTC kids will deliver to the shut-ins this coming Sunday, December 17, please be sure to bring them to the church no later than Sunday morning.
